A few weekends each winter, private jets sell out. Popular airports fill their parking ramps, prices rise and the best aircraft go to whoever booked first. Here are the dates that matter this season, in order, with what to know about each.

F1 Las Vegas (Nov 19–21)
The race is the weekend before Thanksgiving, so outbound flights to Las Vegas and Thanksgiving trips overlap. Book both together if you can. After the race, many jets fly home on Sunday, which can create one-way deals out of Las Vegas.
Art Basel Miami Beach (Dec 4–6)
Collectors fly in from everywhere, and Opa-locka and Miami Executive get very busy. If you're staying in Miami Beach, Opa-locka is often the quickest. Fort Lauderdale Executive is a good, calmer alternative if you don't mind 40 minutes in a car. Book three to six weeks ahead for the best choice of aircraft.
Ski season: what to know about each airport
Mountain airports are high, short and weather-dependent, which affects which jets can use them and how much they can carry.
- Aspen (ASE): about 7,800 ft high with one 8,006-ft runway. Aircraft must have a wingspan of 95 ft or less, which rules out some of the largest jets, and there are no operations from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Holiday weeks are oversubscribed, so book early. Important for next year: Aspen airport will close completely from April 4 to November 19, 2027 to rebuild the runway, so this winter is unaffected but plan the 2027 off-season elsewhere.
- Eagle/Vail (EGE): about 6,550 ft with a 9,000-ft runway, about 37 miles from Vail, with customs available for private aircraft. Often the easier choice for bigger jets.
- Jackson Hole (JAC): about 6,450 ft, a 6,300-ft runway inside Grand Teton National Park, the only US commercial airport inside a national park. There's a voluntary curfew for private aircraft from 9:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. and heavy snowfall (around 300 inches a year).
- Sun Valley (SUN), Hailey: about 5,300 ft; aircraft must be under 100 ft wingspan and 95,000 lb. The usable landing distance is shorter than the runway, so the operator will plan carefully.
Winter tip: mountain flights can be delayed by snow and, in winter, jets often need de-icing, which is billed at cost. Build some slack into the schedule, especially on the way home.
Sundance moves to Boulder (Jan 21–31)
After about four decades in Park City, Utah, the Sundance Film Festival holds its first edition in Boulder, Colorado in 2027. The closest airport for private jets is Rocky Mountain Metropolitan (BJC), about 20 minutes from Boulder by car.
Super Bowl LXI (Feb 14, 2027)
The game is at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Los Angeles, on Valentine's Day, the first Super Bowl scheduled on that date. Super Bowl weekends always bring parking restrictions and heavy traffic at nearby airports, so book early and expect to fly out Monday or late Sunday night.
Spring in Miami: tennis and F1
The Miami Open runs March 14–28, 2027 (dates subject to change), and the F1 Miami Grand Prix is April 30 – May 2, 2027, both at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. Opa-locka and Fort Lauderdale Executive are the closest business airports.
When to book
- Big events (Art Basel, Super Bowl, F1): 3–6 weeks ahead; earlier for the largest jets.
- Holidays and ski weeks: 4–8 weeks ahead.
- Flexible? Watch for empty legs just before and after each event, when jets reposition in and out.
